Includes typescripts and some originals of family correspondence, 1817-1903; Joseph Lovering's letter press book, 1860-1868, of Hope Farm, the Lovering home near Wilmington, Delaware; and May and Sarah Lovering's receipt book, 1824-1849.

Joseph S. Lovering began his business career as a grocer at 2nd and Pine Sts., Philadelphia. Between 1836 and 1866 Lovering operated the Sugar Refinery, one of the largest sugar refineries in the world, known for its steam process.
